Global Warming – Or God’s Warning?

30/11/2011

What has happened to global warming?

Just a couple of years ago the ‘Climate Change’ message was being hammered home by the press and media. Led by the BBC, the ‘evangelist in chief’ of the Climate Change religion, TV documentaries, newspapers and magazine articles were full of ‘evidence’ that global warming was destroying the planet, and we were all being warned of the doom ahead for us all if we didn’t stop using energy, burning coal, driving our cars and booking flights. Global Warming was declared to be the fault of mankind, with our high use of energy. Even our cows were blamed, for expelling too much gas from their digestive processes. Al Gore, an American former Vice President made a movie to promote the Global Warming message.

The government was ringing its hands with glee at the prospect of more opportunities to tax us. Because of ‘Climate Change’ we have to pay more tax on fuel and more tax on flights, and of course all of these ‘green taxes’ have gone into government coffers. The European Union commissars went into overdrive, – after all, Global Warming was another opportunity to introduce further controls over sovereign states, and extend their rule. ‘Green’ activists and opportunists began littering our coasts and hills with almost worthless windmills.

Then we discovered that some of the people and agencies had based their calculations and predictions on some very dodgy evidence indeed. Facts casting doubt on the science had been covered up and science had been manipulated for political purposes. ‘Climategate’ became big news and suddenly there were a number of scientists raising their heads above the parapet and admitting that they had been Climate Change sceptics all along.

Of course, the Climate Change lobby haven’t gone away. There’re still spinning the green message, after all their well paid jobs depend upon it, and the financial penalties are still with us, every time we buy fuel or book a flight. But the excessive propaganda on Climate Change we were being subjected to just a few years ago has abated a little, at least until the government and it’s agencies find another excuse to tax us more.

And what of Al Gore’s message? It was that because of Global Warming the earth will be destroyed by cataclysmic floods. The Bible, on the other hand, teaches us that this earth was created by God, and is sustained by Him and when it ends it will be in accordance with His plan and purpose, and in His time. He has given us a promise in Genesis 8:22, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”

In 2 Peter 3, the way that God will bring this world to an end is shown…

8 But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
9 The Lord is not slow to fulfil his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.
11 Since all these things are thus to be dissolved, what sort of people ought you to be in lives of holiness and godliness,
12 waiting for and hastening the coming of the day of God, because of which the heavens will be set on fire and dissolved, and the heavenly bodies will melt as they burn!
13 But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells.

It is sheer folly to believe that mankind will bring this world to an end. The earth is the Lord’s. Let us prepare for God’s will to be enacted, and place our trust in Him alone for the future.

So as Christians stewardship and care of creation doesn’t matter?? Typical far right wing reaction really. Am glad that the vast majority of Christians this side of the Irish Sea (Britain), do have a more rounded view and are concerned about the state of the environment, especially groups like A Rocha.
