Memories of Fellowship

Memories of Fellowship
Do you have good memories of happy times of Christian fellowship? Do you have happy memories of Christian service, in fellowship with the saints of God? I had a tremendously privileged and blessed youth, especially during my teenage years.

I fondly remember:-

• My time with the Gospelaires. Singing in churches and coffee-bars all over the country. The Upper Room Coffee bar near Aughnacloy. The Old Cinema at Markethill. The Loft/Cleft at Portadown etc. I remember well all the things that went wrong, like the incident at Newcastle Elim, when Stuarty played ‘Can’t live, if living is without you!’ as an appeal hymn! I remember being invited to the CWU at Lisburn, and old Theo McKibben…

• My church life. Prayer meetings, Bible studies, outreach on the sea front with old Mr Graham, handing out tracts and inviting people to the Sunday evening service. We invited two black men, eating chips…

• My friends. We had a great group of friends. Lots of people who enjoyed each others’ company. Some of them are friends still.

Thinking and remembering brought to my mind a passage from Philippians. In this passage, Paul remembers times of fellowship with the Philippian Christians and thanks God for them!

I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always in every prayer of mine for you all making my prayer with joy, because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now. And I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ. It is right for me to feel this way about you all, because I hold you in my heart, for you are all partakers with me of grace, both in my imprisonment and in the defense and confirmation of the gospel. For God is my witness, how I yearn for you all with the affection of Christ Jesus

Philippians 1:3-8
