News Snippets 8th August 2013
News from a Christian Perspective.

Two interesting items of news merit comment today.

In America, (or perhaps more properly in Cuba?) prisoners being held in detention at Guantanamo Bay have been granted the right to read. US mainstream media are reporting that prisoners may now request books.

Given that most of these prisoners are Moslems, one would naturally assume that the most requested book would be the Koran. But you would be wrong. The book most requested by the holy jihadists, the soldiers of Allah is:

FIFTY SHADES OF GREY.

Fifty Shades of Grey is a pornographic novel written primarily for a female readership by E.L. James – And, the US authorities have declared that if that’s what they want, that’s what they should get.

What does this tell you about the basic nature of mankind?

Mark 7:20-23. And he (Jesus) said, “What comes out of a person is what defiles him. For from within, out of the heart of man, come evil thoughts, sexual immorality, theft, murder, adultery, coveting, wickedness, deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride, foolishness. All these evil things come from within, and they defile a person.”

Meanwhile, over in South Africa, another religious leader has made a pro-Gay announcement. Anglican Archbishop (retired) and ANC activist Desmond Tutu has declared that he would choose to go to Hell, rather than spend eternity in a ‘homophobic heaven’.

Tutu, who thinks he knows much more about this sort of thing than St Paul, seems to have already made his choice. Paul wrote, in 1 Corinthians 6:9-10

Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: neither the sexually immoral, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men who practice homosexuality, nor thieves, nor the greedy, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.

Will there be homosexuals in heaven? There will. But like every other sinner they will have repented of their sin, and sought to live a chaste life thereafter, resisting the devil and his temptation by the grace and help of God. There were converted gays in Corinth, and so Paul adds in verse 11.

And such were some of you. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
